Lore

The Great Illumination (as told by King Fluminox):

“I am Fluminox the Sovereign of the ancient clan of the Fire Wings… Mount Cavora wasn’t always up here. It used to be down there. Many centuries ago Mount Cavora was just like any other mountain. The tallest peak in all of Chima, this is where we built our city, and this is where we hoped to bless our primitive brethren below. Thus we graced the simple ground born with our glorious institutions of learning and improvement but our efforts to elevate the lowly may have worked too well. An ambitious young sabretooth tiger named Fangar was one of our best students. He became so full of knowledge and achievement that he felt the only thing left for him to accomplish was complete domination of Chima. Sir Fangar as he now called himself sought to conquer all. None of the ground born could slow him. His merciless attacks left behind a lifeless wasteland. We protected those we could and then stopped the Hunters the only way we knew how. Imagine, the essence of all creation, the ultimate power contained in a single item. Now imagine eight of these items worn by our eight Phoenix elders. This is the Great Illumination. Its power can restore existence to its most pure and natural state. The world renewed, its creatures thrived. Paradise was embraced by all except for the Hunters. They fought the Great Illumination with an unrelenting fury and the Great Illumination fought back. The same power that pulled down the mighty Gorge pushed up Mount Cavora. The Illumination pulled so much heat from the Fangs that nothing has grown there since and the Hunters were left frozen in ice deep inside the Gorge. The Great Illumination left a powerful energy field keeping us skyward and safe from intrusion. The mountain breathed in the moist air of the sky. Water now blessed by Cavora’s Illumination energy brought forth the Chi and the Phoenix shared it with all. Everything changed once again. We carved the rocks above our falls in honour of these new tribes. This is the Story before the Great Story.”

The Great Story (as told by King LaGravis):

“The Great Story can never be told enough. We weren’t always the advanced and sophisticated creatures we are now. Once many, many centuries ago there were no buildings or vehicles or tribes in Chima just jungles and plains and creatures that walked on all fours. One day the sky opened up and blessed the land, pulling Mount Cavora from the heart of Chima. The water that flowed from this mountain was different, powerful, transformative, full of a life force we now call Chi. Those who drank from it became smarter, more complex, evolved. However some in Chima chose not to embrace the Chi. They stayed simple and pure, vanishing into the Outlands never to be seen again. These creatures are now known as the Legend Beasts. It is said that the Legend Beasts will return one day when Chima needs them most. But few here believe they even exist anymore. Mount Cavora still supplies us with Chi today but it is collected here in the Lion Temple where it forms into powerful orbs thanks to the special minerals in the sacred pool…”

Summary or recent happenings:

Of thousands of years of peace, Chima is once again torn in conflict because of a misunderstanding, and the Crocodile Tribe leads its allies into battle against the Lions. Soon, Laval the Lion Prince is tricked into throwing the Crocodile's Chi into the Gorge of Eternal Depth and even more tension arises. Finally after months of fighting the tribes must unite because of a Black Cloud threatening Mount Cavora, the source of Chi. But when the Chi Falls stop, the Lions are blamed and the final battle for Chima begins! At the end Laval and Cragger's showdown they find themselves falling to their deaths, until Laval sacrifices his life, reminding Cragger of his friendship with him. Faking his death Laval gains some time to find the Crocodile Legend Beast, one of the eight Legend Beasts which can restart the falls, and returns much to Cragger's relief. Soon after the Tribes unite as allies to go and save the other Legend Beasts who are trapped in the Outlands. There they find shelter in Lavertus the exiled Lion's base and are able to free seven Legend Beast, until it is revealed that the Chi Laval threw in the Gorge of Eternal Depth was what created this new enemy that had trapped the Legend Beasts. Finally the last Legend Beast is saved and the Heroes would not escape if it wasn’t for Lavertus who uses his Golden Chi to support the exit and ultimately sacrifices his life. The Falls are restarted and Chima is flourishing, that is until Scorm the Scorpion King accidentally awakens Sir Fangar, an ancient enemy, who was frozen for a millennia. With plenty of Chi the Tribes are joyful, except for Laval's friend Eris who has dreams about a Phoenix Tribe, the masters of Fire. Arriving back home, Cragger finds his swamp under attack by the reawakened Ice Tribes, and hardly escapes with his Sister, who had secretly been the real reason for war in Chima in the first place. The Tribes try to fight back, but find themselves defenseless against the forces of Ice, until Eris convinces Laval and Cragger to go inside Mount Cavora. Just like in her dream and much to their unbelief they meet King Fluminox and discover the Phoenix Tribe, masters of the Fire Chi, the secret to the Ice Tribes' defeat. Now the battle is on and the fate of an eternal Ice Age is in the 8 Heroes' hands. They manage to hold the Ice Hunters back for a while, until the Ice Hunters trap the Phoenixes and block the way to the Fire Chi, so they are able to spread in all of Chima. When the Phoenixes are freed, the 8 heroes start searching for the 8 Fire Harnesses, artifacts for performing the Great Illumination, an ancient ceremony that could cure the Ice Hunters of their condition. In their desperate hunger for vengeance the Ice Hunters release the Ice Bears, the most powerful, bloodthirsty and vicious tribe in Chima, but the Ice Bears are defeated surprisingly by the Brown Bears. After the 8 heroes find the 8 Fire Harnesses, they fly into Mt. Cavora and perform the Great Illumination, joined by Prince Flinx as the 9th Phoenix and curing the Ice Hunters. The Phoenix Tribe then leaves Chima.

And this is the time for Chima Adventures to begin. There are lots of undiscovered areas: the Outlands hold many mysteries and the secrets the Gorge of Eternal depths are endless. Just because the Ice Hunters were cured from their condition it doesn’t mean that their hunger for Chi subsided! The Raves are always up to anything if it makes a pretty penny and Crooler still strives to be Queen of the Crocks. Let’s see how you make it in this beautiful but dangerous world!
